AGRA in Niger
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA)
supports this government strategy through programs and partnerships that
address challenges across the agricultural value chain.
In Niger, AGRA programs are developing improved seeds of staple
crops, including drought tolerant maize. They are providing smallholder
farmers with high quality millet, sorghum, cowpea, and peanut seeds;
supporting the growth of a private seed industry; widely promoting
affordable and sustainable soil management techniques; and training
African crop scientists dedicated to improving the country's staple food
crops.
AGRA's public- and private-sector partners in Niger include: the National Institute of Agricultural Research (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique du Niger), private seed companies, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), and the African Union's New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD)
