AGRA in Nigeria
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA)
supports government initiatives to improve smallholder farming. AGRA's
integrated programs and partnerships operate across the agricultural
value chain. They improve farmers' access to good seed of staples such
as maize, cassava, rice, sorghum, sweet potato, cowpea, and soybean.
They strengthen rural agro-dealer networks so that smallholder
farmers can access inputs needed to boost production; provide affordable
financing to private seed companies; and support training programs for
African crop scientists.
In Nigeria, AGRA's public- and private-sector partners include the National Root Crops Research Institute, NEPAD, several Nigerian universities, the West African Seed Alliance, private sector Nigerian seed companies, and the International Fertilizer Development Center.
