AGRA in Zambia
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) supports such
government and private sector initiatives to realize Zambia's
agricultural potential. AGRA's integrated programs and partnerships are
designed to promote rapid growth on smallholder farms and to transform
agriculture into a highly productive, sustainable and competitive
system.
In Zambia, AGRA's work across the food value chain includes providing
smallholder farmers with improved varieties of maize, beans, sorghum,
groundnuts and cowpea; supporting the expansion of agro-dealers who
supply remote farm households with affordable inputs; and investing in
the development of a private seed sector.
AGRA's public and private sector partners in Zambia include the
Ministry of Agriculture's Seed Control and Certification Institute, the
New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), private seed
companies, and Cooperative Assistance for Relief Everywhere.
